About
Are you a chemical engineer interested in sustainability and product development? What We Do: We are seeking motivated interns with a background or interest in material science, chemical engineering, polymer science, or plastics engineering to join our R&D team. You will start working at the University of Udayana's facilities in Bali until approximately November 2024 and then continue at our newly established Pangea R&D Lab in Dalung. The internship focuses on developing and testing polypropylene (PP) composites for eyewear applications, aiming to enhance mechanical properties and aesthetic appeal. Tasks include: ● Material Preparation: Assist in preparing plastic samples and compounding different formulations using twin-screw extrusion and injection molding processes. ● Testing and Analysis: Conduct mechanical tests (e.g., tensile, flexural, and impact testing) using equipment like the Universal Testing Machine (UTM), hardness testers, and impact testers. Analyze the results to assess the performance of composite formulations. ● Microscopy: Prepare and analyze samples using a compound microscope to study filler dispersion, fiber orientation, and surface defects. ● Data Collection & Reporting: Collect, record, and analyze experimental data. Assist in preparing technical reports, graphs, and presentations to communicate findings to the team. ● Research & Development: Research innovative additives and filler materials (e.g., biochar, mica, carbon fiber) that can improve the mechanical properties, density, and gloss of PP composites. Experiment with different formulations and process parameters. ● Collaboration: Work with our R&D team to refine the extrusion and molding process, troubleshoot issues, and optimize composite properties to meet project goals. ● Safety and Maintenance: Follow lab safety protocols, handle chemicals, operate machinery, and maintain a clean and organized lab environment.
